“With the death of Christ the hopes of His disciples also died. When the tortured, crucified Jesus gave His last expiring cry on the Cross, the faith of the disciples suffered a total eclipse...He told them plainly that they misunderstood His spirit and mission...He had talked of His kingdom and glory, but what did this shameful death mean?...They forgot that He had said that He would rise again…But the fulfillment of God’s promises does not depend upon our feeble memory of those promises...He rose as He had said. Hallelujah!..The Resurrection was God’s complete attestation and vindication of Jesus as the Christ of God, His well-beloved Son in whom He was well pleased...But the Resurrection was God’s complete answer to every question, and swept away for ever every ground of doubt.”
