Do you play in a band? Do you and your friends want to get together and play some songs? What are you waiting for?
This year you will have the opportunity to show your stuff on Saturday, May 6th at Metro Youth Councils. We are looking for bands (rock, acoustic, country, emo, ska, hardcore, etc.) who are interested in playing a 15-20 minute set during free time on Saturday afternoon.
Space and time are limited so please contact Jon Bukiewicz if you are interested. First come, first reserved.

Morning Has Broken
It’s nice out. Really nice. I love spring.
Anyway, on Monday morning I stumbled upon this little gem in the Song Book. It’s been in my head ever since. What I like about the song is that just when you think it’s weird or kind of shallow it hits you with something really profound (ala SASB #10: “Hearts unfold like flowers before thee…”). Take a look; it’s deeper than you think. Plus the original melody is fantastic.
Morning Has Broken
Words by: Eleanor Farjeon; Music: Old Gaelic Melody SASB #35
Morning has broken
Like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird.
Praise for the singing!
Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing
Fresh from the Word!
Sweet the rain’s new fall
Sunlit from Heaven,
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness
Where His feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light
Eden saw play.
Praise with elation,
Praise every morning,
God’s re-creation
Of the new day!

Report From Project 24/29
Thursday, March 30, 2006
During Project 24/29 we focused on the theme of 1st, 2nd, 3rd Worlds and the inequality between these countries. The experience officially began at 1pm on Friday when the youth began their 24 hour fast.
When youth arrived at the Corps that evening they randomly chose a small group which determined what World-group (1st, 2nd or 3rd) they represented during the project. The smallest group represented the 1st World; they got to sleep on cots in a smaller, warmer room. We had two 2nd World small groups who slept on chairs. The largest group of kids represented the 3rd World; they slept on the floor.
We had a Pasta World activity which demonstrated the distribution of population, wealth, and food among the 7 continents and revealed gross inequality. Roughly 29,000 pieces of pasta were distributed to each continent and the kids made a display out of what they were given.
Throughout the evening we also had Praise & Worship, heard a presentation about the Republic of Georgia and studied what the Bible says about giving, praying and fasting (Matthew 6:1-18).
On Saturday morning the youth split up and participated in various service projects around the Division. Some went to the Tom Seay Center to serve breakfast and prepare lunch for those in need. Some went to the Evangeline Booth Lodge and participated in Family Hour with the kids from the shelter while others distributed food and cleaned out a storage area. Some went to the Norridge Corps to clean and others went to collect food at the Jewel food pantry.
We broke the fast together on Saturday afternoon. The 1st World small groups were given a small chicken, rice, green beans and also had pop and brownies to eat for lunch! The two 2nd World small groups got spaghetti and the 3rd World small group was only given rice to eat.
Project 24/29 has been a good wake up call for our youth. For many, it's their first time fasting for 24 hours. It’s invaluable to teach them how actively give and support the Lord’s work while seeing how the world-wide Salvation Army can work together. It also provides yet another opportunity for Salvationist youth to fellowship, worship, study and serve together.
All funds raised from Project 24/29 will support the Army’s work in the Republic of Georgia. The goal was to raise $20,000 to help support summer camps and renovate the Didi Digomi's children center. If you are interested in supporting Project 24/29 it’s not too late. They will continue to collect pledges until Easter Sunday. Please email Mary Kim if you want to give.

Project 24/29 Photo Doc
Wednesday, March 29, 2006
Last weekend the Mayfair Community Church hosted Project 24/29—a Salvation Army initiative—that raises money for World Services.
Youth from the Mayfair, Norridge, Oak Brook Terrace and Hammond-Munster Corps raised pledges and had people sponsor them as they participated in a 24 hour fast. They also took part in small group bible studies, worked on mission projects, played games, worshipped and prayed together throughout the night.
Here are some pictures from the experience.
