bird Prayer Guide – Human Sexual Trafficking
Friday, September 29, 2006

Many of you will know that the first annual weekend of prayer for the victims of sex trade trafficking begins today, Friday 29 September and ends Sunday 1 October 2006.

How should you pray? Below is a prayer guide. Commit to prayer this weekend.

“Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Proverbs 14:31

“Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” Isaiah 58: 6

Trafficked Persons
Pray for all of the people (mostly women and girls) who have been trafficked; bought and sold into sexual slavery.
- Pray for safety
- Pray for an opportunity to escape/get out of the sex trade
- Pray for healing, wholeness and restoration
- Pray for comfort

Traffickers
Pray for all of the men and women involved in recruiting, transporting and selling people to be sexually exploited
- Pray for their redemption – that they would feel compelled to change their ways
and stop trafficking other human beings

Families
Pray for the families of people who have been trafficked.
- Pray for their safety
- Pray for acceptance and forgiveness of their family member who has been trafficked

Sex Industry
- Pray for an end to the seemingly endless demand for commercial sex around the world
- Pray for “johns” (purchasers of commercial sex)

Poverty
Poverty is often a leading reason why women and girls enter the international sex trade
- Pray for an end to poverty
- Pray for more economic choices for women around the world

Government Leaders
- Pray for government leaders, as they make choices that affect people
- Pray for America’s leaders to make wise choices about legislation and how they spend their money

Prayer guide taken from http://stophumantraffic.com/ and adapted.

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

The annual experience known as See You at the Pole will take place at High School flag poles around the country tomorrow morning, Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00am.

The Enemy wants you to think that you are alone in your Faith. You are not. See You at the Pole is a great opportunity to expose that lie and join in with other Believers to pray—for your school, your friends, your teachers, your government and your nation.

This is a great opportunity for you to stand, share and sharpen your faith. Don’t forget your Bibles.

bird Urbana 2006
Friday, September 22, 2006

Let’s talk about Urbana.

If you are between the ages of 18 to 30, I would like you to consider attending the Urbana 2006 Student Missions Convention that will be held in St. Louis, MO December 27-31.

Over 25,000 Christians will gather to worship God and hear how He is using people to accomplish His purposes throughout the world. Come and learn about God’s love for people of every tribe, nation, and language and how you can be a part of His global mission. It is a great and life-changing opportunity.

Here’s the deal. Our Territory has allocated 75 partial scholarships for you to attend Urbana at a fraction of the cost. As of right now there are only 26 of these scholarships left. By getting one of these scholarships this five day conference will only cost you $125 (if you are a student) and $150 (if you are non-student). This price will cover registration, hotel accommodation, breakfast and dinner. The normal cost, without scholarship, is over $400. This is a great deal but you have to act fast.

Would you like to go to Urbana and get a partial scholarship? Here is what you must do:

1. Email or Call Linda Himes (Linda_Himes@usc.salvationarmy.org) or (847) 294-2115. Let her know you want to go.

2. Wait. Urbana will send you an email with an invitation to join The Salvation Army registration group. And thus get the discount.

3. When you receive the invitation go to the website (urbana.org) and complete the application following all the links provided.

THE DEADLINE TO GET ONE OF THESE SCHOLARSHPS IS OCTOBER 31ST BUT THEY COULD BE FILLED BEFORE THEN SO ACT NOW!

P.S. Over 250 Salvationists from all over the world will attend Urbana 06. We will have a unique and cool opportunity to meet together on Saturday, December 30th at a special “Kindred Session”. The Singing Company will be leading worship at this meeting. Represent!

bird Des Plaines Prayer & Praise Night Report
Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Our first Prayer & Praise Night of the school year rocked as we had 150 kids packed into the chapel at the Des Plaines Corps on Friday night. Many Corps attended including: Oakbrook Terrace, De Kalb, Elgin, East Chicago, Rockford, Hammond, Norridge, Des Plaines, Laramie, LaVillita, St. Charles, Englewood, Waukegan and Blue Island. (Did I miss any other Corps?)

We introduced a few new ideas that we are going to incorporate into this year’s program including a justice element so that we can participate in different initiatives and help bring justice to the world. The first activity is participating in The Salvation Army’s Worldwide Call to Prayer for Victims of Sex Trade Trafficking which will occur from September 29 – October 1. We explained this call to prayer and distributed information that gives details on how we can pray. Lindsey Bailey will head up this segment for the rest of the year.

There was an enthusiastic time of worship that was followed by a time of testimony in which many youth shared what the Lord was doing in their lives. We then asked the youth to share their personal prayer requests and many shared areas that require intercession. We wrote these requests on a dry erase board and then had them break into small prayer groups to pray for the requests. This was a very moving time of prayer.

The message was on Luke 7:36-50 where Jesus was anointed by the woman who “loves most” and focused on the relationship between forgiveness and love. After the message we transitioned into the altar call; many people came forth to earnestly respond to the Lord.

The Des Plaines Corps youth and staff were amazing and totally owned the night. Captains Jay and Sally Davis did an incredible job of taking care of the details and even bought pizza for all 150 of us. I also should mention that the kids continue to bring are many of their unsaved friends to the meetings. This is very inspiring.

To see more photos from the Des Plaines P&PN click here.

Hope you are well.

Grace,
Eric

bird Prayer Request
Friday, September 15, 2006

I just received a call from Lieutenant Josh Polanco from the Blue Island Corps with an urgent prayer request…

Last night a 16-year-old student from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island was killed when his station wagon flipped after colliding with a driver who lost control of his vehicle. He and six of his friends were driving to a football team dinner.

The seven boys were rushed to Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights where one of the teens, Jock Wormack, was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m. The surviving boys all live in Blue Island or Robbins and are all in good health.

-Please pray for the youth of Blue Island as they deal with the death of their classmate.
-Please pray for the staff of the Blue Island Corps as they counsel their grieving youth.
-Please pray that God will open doors and that Believers will be faithful in sharing the Gospel.

For more information, click here.

I am excited to announce a new SA website (probably the coolest one ever): SAYTunes.com. This great new site was made by Fulton Hawk (of rEVOLution logo fame) and is an internet-gift from the Western Territory.

SAYTunes is a place where Salvationists from all over the world can share original music and lyrics. It has many interactive options; you can download, vote, upload and play all Salvo music.

And there’s plenty of cool stuff on there that you probably have never heard of. I strongly recommend you looking into The Calamari Retribution, a hip-hop group from California. Also, if you get the chance, consider giving The Singing Company some love by giving us a good vote.

Why are you still reading this? Go to SAYTunes.com now!

Derek Webb once said, "I'm called to preach the gospel to the church. The last time I looked the church isn't free."

He’s putting his songs where his faith is and has launched a campaign to give away his newest album, Mockingbird, as a free download. Please visit FREEDEREKWEBB.COM to download Mockingbird.

It is an awesome album and highly, highly recommended.
